Our Sinulog celebration as a Cebuano, specially if you are in the city, isn’t complete without attending the novena or the Sinulog mass held daily for 9 consecutive days before the Sinulog Grand event. It has an hourly mass with just 30 minutes interval celebrated in Basilica del Sto. Nino Church.
Bigger Celebration than Christmas
It is actually bigger occasion and celebration than Christmas time. Priest from different towns are invited to host the mass. Some people pledge to attend daily as a sacrifice and offering. For us, it’s after work past 5pm. It’s good and fun if we attend together with friends. The best part is the singing of the Sinulog Hymn with matching dance.
Here we are outside
Inside the church is already crowded, so we just decided to stay outside. We bring small chairs and anything to sit/squat on like cartoon or a hat.
The 30min interval
There is 30min interval between masses. This is to allow people to have time to go out and a new batch to come in for the next mass. We took advantage of this to get in and see what’s inside.
The Sinulog Hymn
Mentioned above is the Sinulog Hymn with matching dance. The title is “Bato-Balani sa Gugma” and here is the lyrics.
